WODC - Free Food Waste Bags

23/12/2019

WODC has kindly provided some food waste bags for the parish. There are a limited number on a first come basis which are available for collection from the Red Lion pub in Aston and the telephone box in Cote.

The festive season will soon be upon us and so will the traditional waste excess from wrapping paper, food and bottles.

But rest assured - if you are generating more waste than your bins can handle, help is at hand.
All your extras like biscuit and sweet tins, Christmas crackers and cards can be put out for recycling in clear, open bags or cardboard boxes. However, for safety reasons, glass bottles and jars should only be placed in black boxes.

Surplus food waste including sprouts and turkey bones can be left out in the kitchen caddy as well as the food waste bin.

If you still feel you need more space, free food caddies and liners will be available from council reception points including the Witney Town Centre Shop throughout December and January while stocks last.

Residents are reminded that small electrical items such as mobile phones, hair dryers and kettles can be recycled by simply leaving them out in black boxes on recycling week.

To find out more, including full details of what can be recycled in West Oxfordshire, see www.westoxon.gov.uk/bins  or call 01993 861025. The website also details changes to bin collections over Christmas, what can be taken to local Household Waste Recycling Centres and to recycling banks.

OCC - Councils agree £738,000 investment to tackle rough sleeping

22/12/2019

Oxfordshire County Council and six partners have demonstrated their commitment to work as a partnership and tackle rough sleeping by agreeing to invest £738,000, over two years in hostel accommodation for homelessness people in Oxfordshire.
The provision has changed in order to better support people who are homeless and need access to long term accommodation across the county.

The council and its partners have agreed to fund O’Hanlon House for a further two years from April 2020. The 56-bed hostel in Oxford provides housing related support to single people aged between 18 and 65.

Oxfordshire’s six councils and the NHS Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group have committed to working collaboratively to develop a countywide strategy to tackle homelessness.

This will be focused on prevention, early intervention and moving people on from rough sleeping, and the continued investment in O’Hanlon House reflects this partnership approach.

To meet the increasingly complex needs of people who have experienced rough sleeping, O’Hanlon House will offer round the clock support in a safe and supportive environment seven days a week.

As well as providing shelter, O’Hanlon House will work with professionals in housing, health, social care, benefits and probation services to enable people to make positive choices and move towards independent living.

This renewed focus will continue to be provided by Homeless Oxfordshire to meet people’s support needs and in turn promote positivity, inclusion and assist in the prevention and reduction of rough sleeping countywide.

Councillor Ian Hudspeth, leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “It’s really vital that we make sure that we do our best to support those who are vulnerable and need a safe place to live. It is great to have the expertise and cooperation of the other partners so we can collectively provide the best solutions to those who need our support.”

Cllr Steve Good, Cabinet Member for Communities and Housing at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “People can find themselves homeless for wide variety of reasons. We are committed to liaising with them to ensure everyone can have a roof over their heads until their circumstances improve.
“This facility is a major step towards achieving that.”
The partners will implement these changes to reflect how new services are commissioned in the future.

WODC -Don’t forget to recycle this Christmas

10/12/2019

The festive season will soon be upon us and so will the traditional waste excess from wrapping paper, food and bottles.

WODC - Changes to Council Tax support set to help those most in need

10/12/2019

Residents on lower incomes are set to be better off thanks to proposed changes to their Council Tax support.
Following a public consultation, a new banding scheme will see those with a weekly income of up to £125.99 receiving 100 per cent relief on their council tax.

Those on up to £187.99 will have 75 per cent relief, up to £290.99 will have 50 per cent relief and up to £384.99 will have 25 per cent relief. Any household with an income of more than £385 will not be entitled to support.

The upper limit for savings when considering relief has also been pushed up to £10,000 from £6,000 while the two child limit has also been removed to help larger and blended families have more disposable income.

And should a household’s income increase into another band, there will now be an eight-week period when the original rate of relief will still apply.

Mandy Fathers, Business Manager for Operational Support and Enabling at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “The results of the public consultation showed residents were overwhelmingly in favour of these changes.

“We recognise that this is a challenging economic climate and hopefully this will help the finances of those most in need.”

The proposals are due to be considered at a meeting of the Council’s Cabinet on 18 December. If approved, the changes are set to be introduced from 1 April next year.
