As previously advised on this website, Oxfordshire County Council is withdrawing all its bus subsidies from 21 July, which put 118 bus services at risk of being cancelled altogether. This included both the services 18 and 19 which serve our parish.
The bus operators have been examining whether and how they could continue to operate the services at risk without subsidy.
We have now been formally advised by Oxfordshire County that service 18 (Clanfield to Oxford via Aston & Cote) will end on 20 July.
However, service 19 (Carterton to Witney via Aston) will continue with a revised route and timetable. This is possible through the use of some funding previously provided by developers in the area served by the route.
The service will only continue if it is financially viable, and it is likely that this will be subject to a trial period (probably six months). It really is a case of use it or lose it!
