The Aston History Group meets in the Fellowship Centre in Cote Road on the last Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. New members and guests are always welcome are also welcome. The first book to attempt a history of Aston since 1848 has been described as ‘very readable’. With 210 pages and over 300 illustrations there is something of interest for everyone. Aspects of life in this place will particularly attract those whose ancestors lived here.
In 16 chapters and 8 appendices, fully indexed, all aspects of life are covered in an easily accessible way. The special features of religion and agriculture in this parish are described as well as all the social and economic developments that followed national trends. Jane Clarke’s training school for girls in service has its own chapter, as does the parish at war.
