Writing Aston's History

Aston History Group is working hard to produce a book on a history of the parish. "The History of Aston" is now officially underway. The aim of the Group is to publish a book which tells the story of the parish in an interesting and easily accessible way. Aston has an interesting history. It had a uniquely democratic system of agriculture, was a centre for Basque refugees during the Spanish Civil and had a very strong non- conformist tradition.
The research for the book has been carried out principally by Martin Bowley, Andrew Long, Russell La Forte and Trevor Jackson. However it is a History Group project and all members are involved in some capacity.
Over the last 25 years the group has built up an extensive archive collection. It has 3,000 or so items, which includes maps, newspapers, photographs, audio recordings and more. Most of the items in the archives have come from people within the parish.
The group is aware that people farther afield may have memories to share or photographs which can be scanned. If you are able to help us, or want more information contact Andrew Long, 01993 850271, ag.long@virgin.net or Martin Bowley, 01993 850440, aston.historygroup@hotmail.co.uk
