Chance to name the new garden village
Residents are being invited to put forward ideas to name the new garden village.
A special competition is now running to come up with a name for the bespoke development to be built north of the A40 near Eynsham which is currently using the working title Oxfordshire Cotswolds Garden Village.
Cllr Jeff Haine, Cabinet member for Strategic Planning, said: “The name is a key part of the planning process as it gives the village an identity and a real sense of place.
“This will be the name that future generations will identify with so it is very important that we get it right and that the public is engaged as much as possible.”
The winner of the competition will receive two adult annual passes for entry to Blenheim Palace.
Anyone wanting to suggest a name should email [email protected] by midnight on 31 August.

Once the competition closes, key stakeholders such as land owners and Oxfordshire County Council will be contacted for their input and the final name will be decided by West Oxfordshire District Council’s Cabinet.
Additional information
A key element of the West Oxfordshire Local Plan 2031 is the establishment of a new garden village to the north of the A40 near Eynsham.
It will be a new standalone settlement of 2,200 new homes and a science / business park which will give local people an alternative to driving to work in Oxford.
It will have its own village facilities, such as a school and community resources, whilst taking proper account of environmental considerations and planned infrastructure improvements.
In addition, the nearby Hanborough railway station together with a new Park and Ride facility to the north of Eynsham (expected to be open by 2020) will give people an alternative to using their cars.
The new garden village will make a major contribution towards providing much-needed homes and jobs in a high quality living environment. It will also unlock funds to improve infrastructure and boost the case for improvements to local transport links, including upgrades to the A40.
