WODC - Don’t lose your vote – check your registration details now

23/8/2025

Residents across West Oxfordshire are being urged to check their voter registration details as this year’s Annual Canvass gets underway.
The Annual Canvass allows the Council to check voter details are up to date on the electoral register, identify who risks losing their vote at elections, and encourage them to register before it’s too late. With local elections taking place in May 2026 for a third of the District’s Councillors, now is the time to make sure you are ready to vote.
Giles Hughes, Electoral Registration Officer for West Oxfordshire District Council, said:
“We’ll be contacting every household in the district to confirm who is registered to vote at that property. It’s quick and easy to check and updating your details and responding promptly helps us avoid sending out reminders and reduces paper waste.
If you’ve recently moved, it’s especially important to double-check, as many people in their new homes don’t realise they’re not registered to vote yet. The easiest way to register is online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote"
The Council will be contacting households via post or email in the coming months with information on what the householder needs to do to make sure their details are accurate. Households must confirm their property details if requested to do so. Individuals who need to register to vote will need to do this either online or completing a paper form, we will post a paper form to you if we do not receive an online application.
Residents can find out more about registering to vote by visiting the council website at  www.westoxon.gov.uk/annualcanvass)
Anyone with questions about their electoral registration status can contact the council’s Electoral Services Team at [email protected] or by calling 01993 861410.

OCC - Help Shape Oxfordshire’s Tobacco Control Strategy

27/7/2025

The Oxfordshire Tobacco Control Alliance is refreshing the Oxfordshire Tobacco Control Strategy (OTCS) for 2026-2030 and would like to hear the views of Oxfordshire residents on its priorities. This strategy is a significant step towards reducing smoking rates in our county, aiming to make Oxfordshire smokefree and promote a healthier environment for all residents.
We would like to encourage all people living and working in Oxfordshire to take a few moments to complete the Public Consultation survey on Let’s Talk Oxfordshire website. It should take 10-15 minutes to complete and closes on 10th August 2025.
The survey is collecting feedback on the targets and priorities set out in the draft strategy in 5 areas: supporting people who smoke to quit; preventing uptake among young people; creating smokefree environments; enforcing regulations; and working in partnership. Your feedback will help us understand if we need to make any changes to the draft strategy before it is agreed.

OCC - Public Consultation for Part-Night Lighting

9/6/2025

Part-Night Lighting Consultation

Oxfordshire County Council are seeking residents’ opinions on how to implement proposals to introduce ‘part-night lighting’ in parts of Oxfordshire where it is requested.
Oxfordshire County Council are holding a consultation to seek the public’s views on how the ‘part-night lighting’ plans should work.
People can take part in the consultation on the Part-night lighting and street lighting policy | Let's Talk Oxfordshire until 6 July.
This consultation is focussing on how, not where, part-night lighting might be implemented. Scheme locations would be a matter for communities to decide and would then be subject to a further local consultation.
Previous proposals were deferred in November 2024 after concerns were raised. As a result, the aim of the new implementation framework proposal is to give communities the choice to introduce part-night lighting in their area only if they want it.
Oxfordshire County Council want to hear people’s views and concerns, especially to help understand potential impacts on those who are perceived as being at risk from crime or harm.
The aim of the policy is to improve the natural environment from a carbon and biodiversity perspective, while keeping personal and community safety as a priority consideration. Oxfordshire County Council recognise that one size does not fit all. Different operating hours and exemptions will form part of the proposals to meet different communities’ needs. And there is no intention of reducing streetlighting in areas where there are concerns about the impact.
Oxfordshire County Council want part-night lighting to be a community choice which is why the public’s feedback is crucial in helping to get this right. The implementation process being proposed is similar to Oxfordshire’s 20mph programme.
Applications would have to be requested by the local town or parish council/meeting, or local governance authorities.
The consultation feedback on the new implementation proposal is expected to be presented for a decision by the council’s cabinet in September.
Printed copies of the consultation are available. You can request a paper copy of the consultation documents by emailing: [email protected](External link) or call the county council's Customer Services Team on 01865 792422 or download it from this page. Paper copies can also be requested at local libraries. We will provide a Freepost address on the paper survey form for you to return your completed survey.
